The difference between plexiglass and ordinary glass

Date:Jan 07, 2019

1. The plexiglass is highly transparent. Plexiglass is currently the most excellent polymer transparent material, and its light transmittance is 92%, which is higher than that of glass. Ordinary glass can only pass 0.6% of ultraviolet light, but plexiglass can pass 73%. The plexiglass is separated by two pieces of 50 mm thick, and the opposite side can be clearly seen. The ordinary glass is green.

2. The mechanical strength of plexiglass is high. The strength of plexiglass is relatively high, and the resistance to stretching and impact is more than 7 times higher than that of ordinary glass. There is a heated and stretched plexiglass in which the molecular segments are arranged in a very orderly manner, resulting in a significant increase in the toughness of the material. Nail is nailed into the plexiglass, and cracks are not generated on the plexiglass even if the nail penetrates. This kind of plexiglass will not break into pieces after being broken by bullets. Therefore, the stretched plexiglass can be used as a bulletproof glass and also as a canopy on a military aircraft.

3. The plexiglass itself is light in weight. The plexiglass has a density of 1.18 kg/dm3, and the same size material has a weight of only half that of ordinary glass and 43% of metallic aluminum (which is a light metal).

4, plexiglass is easy to process and shape. Plexiglass can be cut not only by lathe, but also by drilling, and can be bonded, hot-bent, etc. into various shapes, such as acrylic display stand, acrylic box, acrylic tray, acrylic photo frame and other various products.

Therefore, the application of plexiglass products is more extensive.
